Golf Course Says
Another of the fine courses that are only minutes from the centre of Edinburgh Royal Burgess Golf Course, home of the Royal Burgess Golfing Society, is a parkland featuring many mature trees. The course measures 6486 yards and has a par of 71. The members of the Royal Burgess take great pride in the condition of the course. James Braid, Willie Park Junior and Sir Harry Colt are among the world renowned architects who have left their imprint on this fine course.

Royal Burgess Golf Course is a solid inland course. An elite club with up market membership and clubhouse, Royal Burgess Golf Club has a mixture of good treelined holes mixed in with some 'get from point A to B' holes. The greens tend to be a little disappointing, and typically slower than they should be. The course doesn't drain well, so beware if you get it on a wet day.

Royal Burgess golf course is a great layout set amongst rolling parkland and a much better design that it's neighbour at Brunstfield. Holes 3, 4 and 15 are the pick of the bunch, but there are no real weak holes. Some sensible improvements in bunkers and other hazards have tightened up holes 10 and 11 to make you really think. Greens in the summer of 2005 were excellent. The Royal Burgess clubhouse is first class and has one of the best changing rooms around upstairs.

Royal Burgess Golf Course is a great parkland course which was in great condition when I played and the greens were also very smooth. The 4th hole is a superb long par 4 with the second shot having to be hit between some tall trees. The clubhouse is a bit stuffy and a shirt and tie was required, but I could put up with that to play Royal Burgess Golf Course.
