Golf Course Says
Prestwick St Nicholas Golf Club moved to its present location in 1892 and today provides a traditional Scottish links test of some 6044 yards from the white tees. With out of bounds looming large on 12 of the holes and the traditional links hazards of deep traps and a changing but constant wind Prestwick St Nicholas provides a test that the course management style of golfer will cope better with than the modern big hitter. Look out for the water that sit between the 7th and 8th holes: it is in fact a flooded quarry that is a source of freshwater for the course irrigation system despite its proximity to the sea.

Where2Golf.comTry to include both this course and the more renowned Prestwick GC on your Ayrshire golfing itinerary - Prestwick St Nicholas is, in most respects, yet another of Scotland's classic out-and-back seaside links courses. The holes are laid out both parallel and perpendicular to the coast, so scoring well in the ever-present sea breeze (or full force wind) will require every shape of shot in your repertoire. The fairways are fairly tight, with a couple of blind tee-shots to make and excellent bunkering throughout - accuracy rather than distance will serve you (and your scorecard) best. At Prestwick St Nicholas, the first three holes and the last three are played over tightly interwoven and gorse-laden dunes; things are a bit flatter on the rest of the course, but no less interesting and no less scenic. Wonderful sea views, with the Isle of Arran in the distance combine with a chance to study Ayr's commercial sea front activities at the turn. Like so many courses on Ayrshire's coast, the seashore provides one boundary with the coastal railway line providing the other.
