GreenFreeThe facilites at Portal Golf Club, which is set in the heart of rural Cheshire, stand comparison with the very best that inland golf has to offer. There are two 18 hole golf courses, a 9 hole layout and a Golf Academy which is Europe's largest indoor / outdoor teaching facility.
Where2Golf.comPortal is a relatively open and recent parkland layout is justly famous for its magnificent views over surrounding Cheshire, and also away to Staffordshire, Derbyshire and the distant hill line of Cannock Chase. On the course, very good use is made of the undulating terrain (and Roman excavations - see Did You Know ?). The driving line is often quite tight, with thick rough awaiting stray shots. The closing stretch of four holes, at Portal, two par-3's and two par-5's provides a fitting end to a very pleasant course. Is this better than the more society-oriented Championship course? You decide, we liked them both.
