The oldest and most popular of the Oceanico courses the Old Course has been in play since 1969 and is now widely regarded, thanks to its worldwide fame and continuing excellence, as the most enduring and alluring of the Algarve's great courses. The Oceanico Old Course was designed by Frank Pennink and is one of the great example of parkland golf on the continent. Martin Hawtree carried out a major refurbishment programme in 1996 but the principles and basic of Pennink classic design were untouched. Pine trees are the main hazard as the course meanders through the gentle landscape so accuracy is one of the demands that the Oceanico Old Course will place on a player.
