The first of the two Jack Nicklaus signature courses to open at the Monte Rei Golf and Country Club. Nicklaus, the Golden Bear, won 18 professional majors in a career that saw him become the dominate player in the history of the game and his transition to course design has been no less successful as he has carved a reputation for being the world's busiest and most successful course designers. It is little surprise then that Monte Rei Golf and Country Club North course received near universal acclaim when it opened for play in 2007. Quite possibly the finest golf course in Europe. Beatifully laid out, imaginative, testing and fair. The usual feature of a Nicklaus course with lots of left-to-right drives and approaches.
There are few courses anywhere that could match the standard that has been reached here and with superb clubhouse facilities and staff the €160 green fee almost felt worth it.
