GreenFreeMinto Golf Club was established in 1928 and is spectacularly placed between the Minto Hills and the Teviot Valley, which is one of the Borders' loveliest. In celebration of the millennium three new holes were introduced at Minto, along with bunkers and new tees at many holes.

Played Minto golf course on 5th April, 5th of 10 under the Freedom of the Fairways Pass - found relatively easily except last section up the back lanes. Magnificant setting, obviously part of former large estate grounds - mature landscaping which the course fits like a glove. Start delayed as groundsman wanted to check greens for frost. Bitterly cold but bright morning with very strong wind. Quite a group of members gathered by the time of the all-clear, so front nine was a little busy. The Minto course is in three parts either side of a hill upon which the well appointed clubhouse sits. Excellent views and a walk not too spoilt although the wind defeated me regularly. Firmer ground would have given that extra 20+yds of bounce on to turn 6 into 5 on par 4`s. Still very satisfied with 6 pars particularly the long haul up the hill of the par 5 5th (Hoggie`s Leap - there must be a story for the telling!?). The course was still being prepared for the new season - a lot of greens being dressed but overall it was immaculate again the sort of club I would consider joining if I lived up here.
