Media Reviews GreenFreeMarriott Forest of Arden Golf Course is one of the finest golfing destinations in the UK, it boasts a range of facilities to impress every golfer. The Aylesford course provides a varied and enjoyable challenge and fully complements its more illustrious neighbour, the Arden course. Where2Golf.comThis part-open, part-woodland course is a relative newcomer to the legions of excellent parkland layouts in England. Unlike some of the older (and shorter) courses, the Marriott Forest of Arden course has been built for amateurs and top professionals alike. A number of European Tour events testifies to that. The terrain is slightly undulating with water in play on quite a few holes, most dangerously at the tough par-4 9th. The back-9, quite different from the more watery front-9, is played in the remnants of an ancient oak forest, with deer and pheasant ever-present. The old knarled oaks contrast with the fern covered undergrowth. The Forest of Ardensignature hole comes at the end, a fabulous long par-3, which has played a deciding role in many a match. Todays GolferA classy course. The Forest of Arden fairways have a swing that makes for easy walking and friendly lies. The course also boasts true and consistent greens. Blends in well with its tranquil surroundings. An awesome pair of closing holes, the 200 yard par 3 finale is a potential card wrecker.

I looked forward to playing the Arden course at the Marriott Forest of Arden for a long time and based on a majority of reviews you can be forgiven for expecting a special round of golf. The course is tough and there are some fantastic holes. There are also a reasonable number of holes which are fairly similar. The main features of the course are often quite far back from the fairway and rough making the place as a whole not quite as asthetically pleasing as it possibly could be. There is no doubt about it, from driving into the resort to driving out, you are aware you are at a superb golfing venue, the fact that you recognise some of the holes from the BBC coverage of the Brittish Masters makes the course that little bit more enjoyable however, I left a little dissapointed. The greens were reasonably long and slow and a few holes were quite easy for the standard of golf course. My day at the Arden course was fantastic but won't be etched in my mind as one of the best courses I have played.
