Machrie golf course is perched above the idyllic Laggan Bay and offers a golfing challenge that has stood the test of time since Willie Campbell laid down the design in 1891. Then, as now, the 6250 yards of golfing heaven takes its main protection from the natural sand dunes and the wind that can blow in a number of directions. The course has fans across the world, many intrigued by the history of a links that once hosted the Great Triumvarate, Vardon, Braid and Taylor, playing for a £100 prize - almost unheard in those early days of professional tournaments. Machrie Hotel and Golf Links is an essential stop for many people on their pilgrimage to play the great links of Scotland.
