Horsley Lodge Golf Club

A lovely kept course in the heart of Derbyshire, this parkland course is well worth the green fee, the greens are in fantastic condition and are really challanging. Starting off with a nice par 5 which has a nice large fairway gives confidence when driving off the tee. The fairways and bunkers are well kept, especially the bunkers, the sand is lovely and fine and splashing out isn't a problem. there are lots of little features in regards to koi ponds and fountains around the course which catch your eye whilst strolling around. The members which I came across were very helpful with the only problem that I came across whilst playing which was the lack of directions towards the next tee, also the yardage was different on two or three of the holes on the scorecard to the actual hole itself by 30 to 40 yards which caught me out once during the round. Some of the approaches are really challenging especially the 9th and 17th. The 9th is a tricky 180 yard par three towards the Hotel with the green sat just in front of the outside restaurant area, over shoot the green and your ball will be in someone's Sunday lunch ! The 17th is a lovely par four with the green surrounded by a ten yard moat type water hazard with bunkers guarding the rear of the green. All in all playing this course was a really good experience and I recommend you give it a try, you won't be disappointed.
