Golf Course Says
Hirself Golf Club is highly regarded as the Augusta of the Scottish Borders and has the unique claim of being the first and last course in Scotland. Hirsel Golf Club is 6111 yards long and has a par of 70. It is not an easy course but it provides an excellent work out for all levels of golfer. There are only to par fives but both come in the last seven holes and are well placed to ruin the card of anyone who has allowed weariness to catch up with them. Hirself Golf Club has also been voted the friendliest in the area.

Played Hirsel on April 3rd PM on a Freedom of the Fairways Border Pass. Easy to find just through the town part of - or next to - Country Park. Excellent setting, suspect course laid out in grounds of old grand estate? Majestic mature woodlands and countryside. Modern impressive clubhouse with great 1st floor lounge overlooking the 1st/18th where I partook of a warming bowl of Scotch Broth and bacon bap before setting out - shame it wasn`t available on my return! Cold very windy raw day with intermittent cloudbursts of hail!! particularly as I reached the 2nd green and the 3or 4 holes thereafter had "fun" putting on seas of hailstones as the ball grew like a snowball on its journey! Every hole at Hirsel had something different and testing, water, doglegs, blind shots trees, bunkers, some severe doglegs certainly keeps you alert at all times. Rather boggy in parts put can`t complain because of the weather - generally very well kept and well worth a stop - I would think really nice on a balmy summers evening - except for the mozzies! As for "Augusta" well I`ve never been but there wasn`t a rhodi or azalea in site!? and the greens thankfully weren`t as devilish! The sort of club abd course I would consider joining if i lived up there.
