Founded in 1896 and originally redesigned by both Willie Park and James Braid, Formby Golf Club is one of the most memorable courses in the British Isles. Lengthened to over 7000 yards for Championships the course will host the British Amateur in 2009 and is a true championship test of golf. Sited within the sandhills and pinewoods of Formby the terrain ensures that accuracy is always at a premium with heather protecting much of the rough and caution is definitely required whether playing off the tee or in approaching the well protected greens.

Todays GolferTraditional links golf at its unpretentious best. There isn't a bad hole on the course, with the stretch around the turn particularly classy. Top condition all year round.

Formby golf club is one of the true hidden gems of English golf. When I played it was in great condition and provided a wonderful selection of holes of every type. There were links holes, parkland and a fantastic few holes through the tight tree lined fairways at the end of the front nine. The clubhouse was alos fantastic and I would say a round at Formby golf course is well worth the green fee.
