EL Rompido – North opened in June 2006 and like its sister course, El Rompido – South, winds alongside protected salt marshland for a number of its holes. The remainder tend to run parallel to each other weaving to the side of woodland and a mature orange grove. A blend of open and tight fairways brings the player invariably to face its small and often very narrow greens. The absence of construction on the course gives it a distinct advantage over many others in the area.

The first ten holes are very enjoyable with some interesting doglegs. Then you get the impression that the remaining holes have been shoehorned into a patch of land between a marsh (nature reserve) and houses overlooking the course. These holes are not worthy of the rest of the course and are a poor finish. The final “indignity” is a boardwalk across the full width of the marsh – probably a good half mile before the you reach the eighteenth tee. Condition 6/10, Architecture 7/10, Enjoyment 6/10.
