Golf Course Says
Colvend Golf Club's original nine holes were designed by Willie Fernie in 1905 before being redesigned by Dave Thomas in 1985 before the course was extended to 18 holes. The layout was further refined with changes to the 12 holes and the introduction of new 15th and 16th holes in 2005. Today Colvend Golf Club is a 5341 yard par 69 with challenges in the form of tight tree lined fairways, water hazards and well place bunkers.

Golfalot Review of Colvend Golf Club
The steep fairway on the first hole provides a daunting psychological test when you first arrive at Colvend Golf Course. Once you have negotiated that you might be surprised to find a run of links type holes that cling to the cliff top. From there you make your way down to the eight hole where a burn in front of the green, a well placed bunker and out of bounds to the back make a par 3 a sound score before you cross over the road for holes 9 to 17 which are classic parkland. The water features make accuracy the key at holes 12 and 13 and the par five 14th appears even longer into the wind which we faced in both the morning and the afternoon. When we played the course in spring we found the course to be in generally good condition although the greens on the first seven holes seemed to be struggling to recover from the winter months. Despite that, however, Colvend provided a varied and enjoyable round of golf. A pleasant welcome, and much needed sustenance, were provided in the clubhouse.

Todays GolferSome of the best value golf in Britain. Short and picturesque but it can bite. A tidy short game is needed to score well.

I've been playing Colvend on family holidays for years and I've seen it develop from the original nine holes into the 18 hole challenge it is today. The course is very different on the first eight (and 18th) than it is when you cross over the road. There is a good mix of holes and few risk and reward shots where you'll be scratching your head over the best course of action. Colvend Golf Club means nostalgia to me but it also a nice course that presents a fine challenge. And even after all these years the first fairways remains a dauntingly steep proposition!

Worth getting a buggy for Colvend Golf Club, especially if you have a look up the first fairway. The course has a good mixture of holes with some water along the way. We played it on a windy day and it made it quite tricky. Generally the greens were really poor and for me spoiled the course. It looks like some of the holes are fairly new and the greens and not really playable. May be good in a few years.
