Golf Course Says
Centurion Park Golf Club, previously Wallsend Golf Club, is in a prime position just off the Coast Road in Newcastle. When you step onto the well established parkland course, it is hard to believe that it is only four miles from the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne.

Easily accessible from the centre of Newcastle we found Wallsend Golf Club to be a fine urban golf course with some challenging holes and enough interest to contribute to an enjoyable round of golf. Locals tell us that the course can get quite wet when the weather is unkind and we saw some evidence of that with some bunkers underwater and the greens holding up remarkably well despite being very wet in places. The course was quiet when we played but as a pay and play course in the centre of Newcastle there is a chance that it may risk being overplayed. Some blind tee shots and a couple of longer holes where you are left with a choice of going for length or trying to ensure accuracy mean that the course will keep the better player engaged and keep the beginner hooked. The 17th with a sweeping drive required to an unseen fairway which then twists right towards the green and the par 3 18th where water and rough will catch the unwary are a solid end to an enjoyable if not ever truly spectacular course.

For a former local authority course Wallsend Golf Course is in really good condition and has a fine mix of holes. The facilities in the clubhouse are excellent and the practice facilities are also first rate. The woodland setting means that there are only a couple of points on the course where you actually realise that you are in the centre of Newcastle. Its hard to pinpoint a feature hole but the course is generally more than adequate.
