Castlerock Golf Club is situated in the seaside village of Castlerock, which lies approximately 5 miles due West of the town of Coleraine on the North Coast of Northern Ireland. Castlerock is a fabulous links course set among rolling sand dunes. Its scenic qualities embrace the river Bann flowing out to the Atlantic, and also eye-catching views of Donegal and on a clear day towards Scotland and the Isle of Islay. An ideal retreat in which to play golf. The Championship Mussenden Course is a par 73 with five par-5’s, four par-3’s, and nine par-4’s. The best-known hole is the fourth, called the Leg o ‘ Mutton, a 200 yard par-3 with a railway line to the right, a burn to the left and a raised green.

Where2Golf.comCastlerock is another of those lesser known gems with all the characteristics of genuine links golf by the sea. In this case you are at the end of the River Bann as it enters the Atlantic Ocean, and just downstream from another illustrious course, Portstewart, which can be seen on the opposite bank. At Castlerock the sand dunes give the course its definition and lead you through a very natural landscape, along some narrow-ish fairways and onto the excellent greens. This is a very pleasant links golf course, with lovely views, some good size dunes, testing holes and all under the watchful gaze of a church on the hill at the village-end of the course. Together with Royal Portrush and Portstewart, Castlerock makes up a triumvirate of excellent courses just a stones throw from the town of Coleraine.

Castlerock Golf Course is a fantastic links course that was very long but very fair. Not very well known but a real hidden gem compared to the higher priced courses nearby. Castlerock Golf Club is certainly worth a visit.
