Castle Point Golf Centre

This course has to be one of the most run down and poorly maintained courses in England. As a resident of Canvey Island I've not played on this course for years and decided to give it another go. From the time I was greeted by the moodiest man on reception to the time I finished my round (early!) and left, the whole thing was a disaster. It cost £10 for 9 holes which I think is pretty dear for a public course. Basildon Golf Course costs just £5 for 9 holes and looks and plays miles better. The greens were OK, although a bit sticky in places but if you don't hit it down the centre everytime you've a really good chance of losing a ball. I lost 4 balls in the "light rough" which I've never had before. You may think it's just me having a bad round but I spoke to people going round and even the regulars think it's a dump. They just go as it's local. The toilets smelt like they'd not been cleaned for a month and the beer is expensive so don't even think of hiring the club.I have no idea how they stay open! I will never play this grotty course again and I would advise you not to waste your money. Try Basildon, Langdon Hills (if you know a member), Garrons or Dunton Hills instead.
