Media Reviews Where2Golf.comColin Montgomerie has become synonymous with delivering great results and extraordinary consistency in his golf; the same qualities flow into his course design. Here at Carton House he has taken a relatively flat and open parkland area and transformed it into a great and very linksy golf course. From the tees the fairways look invitingly wide, but large bunkers resembling lunar craters will account for many drives. Around the immaculate greens, many of them elevated, these distinctive crater-like bunkers reach down to considerable depths! The clear feeling you get is that no two holes are alike, even though views beyond the course are limited. The woodland boundary, a few mature and very solid oak trees on the course itself, and the excellence of the layout provide all the visual interest you need. Rye Water, which runs alongside the par-3 17th and par-5 18th adds a nice touch of variety, even if it does not really come into play. The first "Monty" course played by the Where2Golf team, and a real aristocrat it is too. Todays GolferThe Montgomerie Course is just down the road from the K Club and just as classy. An inland links style layout, wispy rough, deep penal pot bunkers and super slick greens. Choose your tee with care.

Carton House is undoubtably a fantastic venue for golf. Just 20 mins from Dublin's city centre, the grounds are spectacular. The Montgomerie course is a strange course, built as a links course on an inland piece of property. If the holes were lined with trees, I think it would be very good, but it is a bit of a gimmick really. The condition of the course was excellent, the greens were fast and smooth and the fairways were lush. The finishing three holes are great, but overall I was disappointed with the concept/layout.
