I am never playing there again, I have tried hard below to be objective and dispassionate, read on... Firstly, staff always arrogant and pompous on the phone and face-to-face. Course always overbooked, causing ridiculous round times even during the week. I once, last 12 months, had to give up at 16th tee after 5 hours with 2 groups ahead waiting to tee off. My last round took over 4 ½ hours due to queuing at tee's, and that's in off-peak. It has been leaked to me that management cram in more bookings than they should because they are premium Burhill Golf & Leisure site, they want to maximise income and they want to keep to the top of "some" national tee off table; so customers suffer and we never see any stats for "rounds abandoned". Now for the course itself: Challenging course unless you think on your feet. However, a lot of sand traps seem to have large pieces of wadding poking through from below; I suspect that the bunkers are too shallow and lack sand. Yet another cost saving for the management? They have, at last, cut back the long rough; however this hasn't speeded up rounds.
So, in conclusion, could be a MUCH better place to play if only they stopped over-booking the course, made the bunkers deeper and then added more sand and gave the staff training in polite customer communication.
By way of comparison in the local area, I have never taken over 4 hours at Chelsfield Lakes, just 4 miles away, it’s cheaper and just a good a course.

Birchwood Park is a good course. Very well maintained and a wide variety of holes makes for an interesting experience. Definitely one of the best public courses in the area and well worth a visit. Can be difficult getting a tee-time in season as it tends to get very busy. Has a driving range, practice green and restaurant as well as a well stocked pro-shop. | Michael Szodi | 4 stars out of 5 | 07/10/2005 |
Birchwood Park is a very good course, well maintained and quite forgiving for the novice. A good mixture of holes, some very tough, making you think about where to place your shots and not letting you go straight for the green. The 15th is the toughest hole at Birchwood Park. Your tee shot must be well placed to be able to see the green as it is down a steep bank. Par 4 but plays like a 5 - very tough !!
