Golf Course Says
Voted one of the best new courses in the UK Bearwood Lakes was designed by Martin Hawtree who has used the 200 acre site in the beautiful Berkshire countryside to great effect. At 6,850 yards with a par of 72 the course has the length to challenge even the best golfers and with three natural lakes totalling 50 acres featuring on six holes there are plenty of challenges for the players to overcome. The greens have been built to USGA specification using Providence bent grass to present true, fast putting surfaces at the end of the holes that utilise the rolling terrain and trees to great effect. The greens, tees, fairways and surrounds are all fully irrigated and the course is presented in immaculate condition.
Golfalot Review of Bearwood Lakes Golf Club
Bearwood Lakes has a lovely secluded feel to it and is one of the better 'new' course designs we have played. Set in rolling terrain there are loads of excellent holes particlularly from the 3rd to the 14th around the lakes and through the trees. The condition of the course when we played it was excellent and the greens in particular were receptive, true and fast. Like most new courses there was a bit too much walking between holes, but not as much as is usual on these types of courses. A few of the finishing holes could do with a few more hazards & features to make it a really tough test, but overall there is not much to fault at Bearwood Lakes. The clubhouse is also excellent with a lovely bar and balcony overlooking the 1st and 18th to round off an excellent day out.
Quiz queen Anne Robinson would struggle to find a weak link among the 18 holes. The course looked and played immaculately. You would struggle to find fault with the place full stop. No longer a hidden gem, get down as fast as you can.
Bearwood Lakes is a beautiful course. Rated 71st, in Golf World's 100 greatest UK Courses list. "Hidden gem" is the best way to describe this amazing course, which boasts immaculate, fairways, tees, greens, not to mention the stunning lakes. The latter holes, especially the 14th, are holes you will remember for the rest of your life. To quote Barry Lane, "it won't be long before Bearwood Lakes is recognised as one of the finest courses in the UK". The course has 4 tees, and plays nearly 6900 yards of the tips. The clubhouse is just as amazing as the course, which is one of a select few to be managed by Troon Golf, which manages courses worldwide like The Grove, Turnberry, Colonial CC.
Overall, Bearwood Lakes is one of the greatest golf courses in southern englan, and is a course every golf lover should play before they die.
