Austin Lodge Golf Club

Austin Lodge Golf Club is a long course of the white tees, 6600 yards and plays long. The condition of the course I do not believe is what you would expect from a private club. The fairways have no shape and it is difficult to know where they finish and rough starts. The greens had just been prepared for summer when I played (April 2008) and were a little bobbly so I cannot give a true account of how they would normally play.
The bunkers were in fairly poor order (nobody had been out and raked them) and the course suffers quite badly from animal intrusion such as rabbits, with burrows dotted around in fairways and rough. They do have a fantastic device that measures yardage from where ever you are on the course to the hole and it works really well (ask at the pro shop and you may get one free to trial!) The course was averagely busy and the round for two of us took 3hrs 38 minutes (Tuesday 12pm tee off) The course has some interesting holes, there’s a great downhill par 3 and I am sure that the majority of people may rate it higher, but having played a lot of courses in Kent recently, I found this to be the most lacking, both from quality and imagination.
