The largest of the golf resorts in the Lisbon area Aroeira is one of the foremost golfing destinations in Portugal, often referred to as the "Portuguese Wentworth" thanks to its woodland setting. Frank Pennink designed Aroeira 1 in 1973 and it has since become rated as one of the premier courses in Europe. The course has hosted the Portuguese Open and is a regular venue on the ladies tour.
