Alicante Golf Club

Alicante golf course is one of a number of excellent courses designed by Severiano Ballesteros. This is a very attractive course that is known in the area as "the big green-lung" of Playa de San Juan for its creative enhancement of the environment. Many of the characteristics and features that Seve has used in the design have resulted from his exposure to international trends that ensure golf course design benefits the surrounding environment. As with a number of new courses the Alicante golf course is incorporated within a residential development. The course has been designed to challenge the golfers ability to use all the clubs in the bag. Both nines are equally balanced in terms of length however the holes get progressively more difficult as the round progresses. Every hole presents the golfer with new challenges and choices as to how each should be played The course design features large tees, wide fairways and five huge lakes that regularly come into play. The course is "spacious" but there are a number of holes where the out-of-bounds will get your attention. The greens are reasonably large, not overly undulating but defended by strategically placed bunkers. Two of the more memorable features of the course include the S shaped lake surrounding the 8th green and the Roman ruins next to the 14th that have to cleared with your approach to the green.
