Golf Course Says
Aldeburgh golf club is a challenging 18-hole course is an 'all-year-round' course, maintained and presented in fine condition, with the added bonus of views across the River Alde to Iken Church on the southern bank and, across from it, a line of pine trees silhouetted against the water, known locally as ‘Little Japan’. Aldeburgh is breathtaking at any time of day, but particularly so as the sun begins to set in the wide skies of East Anglia behind the church. In the other direction, coastal shipping can be spied from the higher spots on the first nine. Given the chance to play a splendid course in these surroundings, who can afford to miss it? Certainly not the player who also knows that the back nine has its own version of ‘Amen Corner’ and brings the successful golfer home glowing with satisfaction.
Media Reviews
Where2Golf.comAlthough only a par-68, Aldeburgh is a delightful heathland course with a linksy feel and pleasant views over to the River Alde. You are often required to hit straight to avoid the ever-present gorse or substantial bunkers. Aldeburgh's long par-4’s, compensate for no par 5’s. A combination of John Thomson and Willie Fernie’s work in 1884, and later re-construction by J.H. Taylor and Willie Park Junior in 1906 has resulted in a course well worth the 2-hour drive from London.
