This course is a neat lay out split in two by the Manchester to Liverpool main rail link. Its yardage is no real indicator of simplicity. Many of the par 3s on the back 9 are long, and a number of tricky par 4s make this a real test of positioning rather than distance.
I regularly play this course, and have seen it develop over 35 years or so since it opened as a 14 hole circuit.
To say it is a gem may be a little generous, but it serves a real purpose.
The greens are always in reasonable condition, and subtle in their reading.
