The Turnberry Resort Kintyre Course avoids the pitfalls of so many "second courses" by proving to be a wonderful example of links golf in its own right. Indeed the course is an Open qualifying venue and visitors will be quick to realise why. The course offers the views you would hope for from its incredible coastal holes: Arran, Kintyre and the iconic Turnberry Lighthouse can all be marvelled at when you wander between shots. The feature hole is the 8th with its elevated tee and blind approach to a green that seems to blend in with the rocky coastline. Once you have played the Kintyre Course you will want to savour it time and again. |

| The Kintyre Course at Turnberry is by no means a 'second course' having hosted the 2004 Open Final Qualifying. The redevelopment of the old Arran course has resulted in an extremely tough course that threads it's way through gorse over the first 7 holes. Position off the tee is crucial here as any mishit heads for a prickly grave or one of the many excellently placed fairway bunkers. Holes 7-10 are the 'newer' holes and the turf changes from links to more parkland. Whilst we are unsure about how this blends in, you cannot fault the fantastic scenic views this brings to the course, especially at holes 8 & 9 which are great holes in perfect locations. Hole 11 sees you back down the hill on flat ground amongst the gorse again and the last 4 holes are particularly tough, especially into the wind, with special mention to the par-3 16th with it's deceptive green. We played the course in May and the greens had yet to reach peak condition, so we would recommend playing June to September. Take a caddy too if it is your first time as they proved to be knowledgeable and full of the usual caddies' tales. The hospitality at Turnberry before and after the round was 1st class and in our view the Turnberry Kintyre is no pushover and a worthy partner to the Ailsa course. |

I just played the Kintyre course at Turnberry at the start of November 07, with some heady winds and rain here and there; it was a true test of links golf. The course was in absolute perfect condition even the greens have amazing undulations and were very slick. I was made to feel very, very welcome, staff were first class. The views from the course are second to none, particularly when you get to the short 8th hole. The green is nestled right down in the rocks, with no room for error off of the back of the green. To your left in the distance is the infamous lighthouse, out to the sea you have Alisa Craig, truly wonderful views. The bunkers on this course are all extremely well placed on every hole and any wayward tee shots and even 2nd shots are punished by the cavernous bunkers on this course. Some bunkers on the course actually made me tactically lay up on some of the holes to avoid wrecking my card. Overall this is the best links course I have played, is certainly worth the money and I shall be playing it more and more in the years to come.
