Marriott St Pierre Old Course

Seve Ballesteros, Greg Norman, Bernhard Langer. A who's who of 1980's golf and also a list of winners at the Marriott St Pierre Old Course a course that is considered to be one of the very best in Britain. The course lies in a 400 acre estate that has been part of the Monmouthshire countryside for over 600 years and the course is laid out around an 11 acre ornamental lake. The Old Course was designed by Ken Cotton in the early 1960's and since then has played host to the European Tour a dozen times. The course was remodelled in 2008 with some of the new holes set to open in 2009. The St Pierre Old Course has a stunning finishing hole - a 235 yarder over a lake to a raised green and keep an eye out on the second fairway for the 400 year old chestnut that provides an eyecatching and head scratching foe.

What The Media Says

GreenFree

There are two superb courses at Marriott St Pierre Mathern Golf Club making it an ideal venue for golfers of all levels. Marriott St. Pierre's Old Course is both beautiful and challenging, and is recognised as one of the finest courses in the UK. The Mathern Course presents its own challenges to experienced and weekend players alike.

Todays Golfer

Several top tournaments, including the Solheim Cup, have been staged at St Pierre Golf Course and no wonder. St Pierre Golf Course is simply a great place to play golf with the 18 hole Mathern layout acting as a good foil for the more challenging Old Course.

Where2Golf.com

There is much excellent golf to be played at Marriott St Pierre Old on this relatively open parkland layout. Small greens, big bunkers and an excellent standard of upkeep are much in evidence. On the front nine the early elevated holes afford views onto the two huge Severn estuary bridges. On the back nine the best holes (10, 15 and 17) all have a watery end for a misjudged approach shot. The immensely long par-3 18th, with the hotel and a parish church to aim at, is surely the best hole.
