It is not difficuilt to see why Royal West Norfolk Golf Club is so consistently rated as one of the best in England. This is classic links golf in its purest, most dramatic and most enjoyable form. Surrounded by the North Sea and saltmarshes Royal West Norfolk Golf Club has the atmosphere and setting to match the quality of the golf on offer. Visitors are welcome at Royal West Norfolk but numbers are restricted and only two balls or foursomes are allowed on the course which means that a round can be completed in a sensible time. The course was designed by Holcombe Ingleby and many of the holes that he laid down in 1892 remain in play today - confirmation, if any were needed, that this is land that lends itself perfectly to challenging golf. The Royal status of Royal West Norfolk was conferred by the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII, became a patron of the club. Since then Dukes of Gloucester and Windsor and two Duke's of Kent have captained the club. The Royal West Norfolk golf course clubhouse is not accessible by car when the tide is high and the trip across the beach to the clubhouse adds the anticipation of a wonderful golfing experience. Visitors should note that Royal West Norfolk Golf Club is often referred to as Brancaster. |
