What The Media Says

Where2Golf.com

In the walled grounds of the impressive Preston Grange House is this most ancient of golf clubs - Royal Musselburgh, founded in 1774. The course itself is much more recent, dating from 1926. To the east are the mighty Lothian links, but here you'll find something distinctly different, a parkland course, almost garden-like - although there are opportunities to glimpse the sea. Using every piece of available land inside the boundary wall, James Braid created a good layout, which is fairly flat at the outset with more undulation evident on the back-9. The holes are given some further definition by recent tree-planting, but that still doesn't stop balls landing on adjoining fairways - be ready to respond to and give the customary shout of "fore" for those occasional wayward shots. The excellent bunkering at Royal Musselburgh may catch a few of your drives and approach shots as you play your way round this parkland alternative to all those neighbouring links courses.

Royal Musselburgh Golf Club is a nice course that was in decent condition. Greens were good with a smooth roll. Liked the short par 3 14th hole that has a huge gully in front of the green. The first few holes are all short par 4's that give you some birdie chances. The Clubhouse at Royal Musselburgh Golf Club is very grand on the outside but more down to earth once you are inside.

Royal Musselburgh Golf Club is a breathtaking club with a castle clubhouse and a drive to the club that catches everyone's eye. Royal Musselburgh Golf Course is a short course, but it really tests everyone that plays. Drivable par fours, attractive par threes and a testing finishing hole, Royal Musselburgh Golf Course has everything to be a quality course. Good course if you wanna get outta the city.

Royal Musselburgh is a pretty good layout, but a lot of very similar holes. Although a lot of the holes are quite short, if you go with your driver and don't get the right line you can leave yourself a very tough up and down. Needs more thought than first impressions give. The greens were very good when we played Royal Musselburgh. The turreted clubhouse looks good from the outside, but fails to live up to it inside, although there is a good family/community atmosphere among the members who are very welcoming.
