The North course opened as a nine hole course designed by William Mitchell before another admired American architect, Joseph Lee assisted by Rocky Roquemore, completed the extension to 18 holes in 1989. Today Quinta do Lago is widely admired for the great condition it is maintained in throughout the year, for the quality of its four par five holes and for the variety of the challenges it offers. Many of the world's best players have played and enjoyed Quinta do Lago North.
