Musselburgh Links Old Course

The Old Course at Musselburgh is the oldest golf course in the world that is still used today. The nine hole course today shares it piece of links with the Musselburgh Race Course. The course measures 2874 yards and has a par of 34. Musselburgh Links Old Course was once the home Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers before they decamped to Muirfield. Seven Opens were played at Musselburgh and the course itself produced five of the earlier Open champions.

What The Media Says

GreenFree

Musselburgh Links, on the edge of the town, is a delightful nine hole course. The Open Golf Championship was held here first in 1874 and the course was the venue for a further five. Musselburgh Links also claims the honour of holding the worlds first golf competition for women in 1811.

Todays Golfer

Simply steeped in golf history. Forget St Andrews this is wehere golf first started. Mary Queen of Scots reputedly played there in 1567. Has also staged six Opens.

Musselburgh Links is not a course to play if you desire a quality golf course. Set in the middle of a racecourse, it is a terrible course by modern standards. However, I would recommend playing Musselburgh Links, as it is thought to be the oldest course in the world!
