Boasting a central location in Scotland's historic capital Merchants of Edinburgh Golf Club was founded in 1907 and today provides a course that will not challenge the visitor but also allow them to marvel at the incredible views of the city that the course affords. A native of the area, Ben Sayers, designed the course before that tireless course architect James Braid made some alteration in the 1930s. Today this parkland course measures just under 5000 yards and has a number of interesting holes. Merchants of Edinburgh Golf Club is built on two hills and the course travels along the valley between the hills.

Merchants Of Edinburgh Golf Course itself follows the sloping contours of the scenic Craiglockhart Hill affording incredible, panoramic views of the capital's spectacular skyline and surrounding countryside. A feature of the course is the number of alluring par 3 holes - the most memorable of these is the 208 yard thirteenth.

What can I say? Merchants Of Edinburgh Golf Course is not your average 18 holes. Disappointing would be an understatement. Far too many par 3's and with some of them blind. The only good thing about Merchants Of Edinburgh Golf Club is the views off the city. Fantastic new clubhouse, it's just a shame about the course. Not my cup of tea.

Merchants Golf Course may just be the most disappointing course you will play in Edinburgh. With blind par threes, and holes that would be better suited to snow sledging, Merchants Golf Course is below par! Greens are often in poor condition and rain seriously damages an already lack-lusture golf course.

The Merchants course in Edinburgh starts off well. The front nine is pretty good and the 9th hole dog-legs down a valley round trees is the best of the bunch. However the back nine decends into a bit of a farce with 3 blind par-3s and another with a 100ft drop between tee and green. Great fun but hardly fair if you are playing in something meaningful. Clubhouse is very good, so play the front nine at the Merchants and retire to the 19th is my advice.
