Challenging and tradition, Luffness New Golf Club lies at the edge of Gullane and is one of a number of excellent courses that make this patch of East Lothian such a special golfing destination. Luffness golf course itself was designed by the legendary Old Tom Morris in 1894 and over the year has proved more than capable of holding its own in the company of such illustrious neighbours as Muirfield and the three Gullane courses. Luffness Golf Club is a regular host of Open qualifying tournament but, aside from some small alteration to lengthen a couple of holes, this traditional members club has refused to jump on the bandwagon of "Tiger proofing" or adding gimmicks to what is, already, a golfing treasure. Consistent play and course management will be rewarded here. Luffness New Golf Club shares the traits of so many of the real Scottish links and the wind is no different here, with members well aware of the dangers and opportunities for disaster that can befall the unwitting golfer in the face of a strong coastal wind. Visitors are welcome but Luffness New Golf Club remains primarily a members club run for the benefit of members.
