Playing a course of Ikley Golf Course's quality, when having to pay for oneself and two juniors is a rare event. To play at Ilkley for as little as £35 for the three of us is a real bargain - hence I truly applaud the club for its twilight offer to visitors. The Ilkley golf course is without doubt superb, set in a lovely valley with the River Wharfe meandering close enough to several fairways and greens to be of concern to errant shots. I can see why someone as illustrious as Colin Montgomerie spent so much of his youth here. A stiff westerly made it a tough series of opening holes to score well. Personally my favourite holes are from the 14th onwards away from the river...need i say more.
