 | The Fairmont St Andrews Torrance course was remodelled in 2009 and the former 17th an 18th holes went to the Kittocks course in return for their 3rd and 4th. This is an improvement and makes the loop around the Fairmont St Andrews Hotel, a little more challenging. After the crossing the round at the 8th, the course layout has been much improved and there are plenty of good holes. The greens are the usual slopey greens you get on modern courses so care needs to be taken there. The 16th has lost its rough in the middle of the fairway which is a shame, but it is still a good hole with of bounds right behind the green and great views down to the sea. The 17th is a great par-3 and the new 18th brings you back to the clubhouse at the end of an enjoaybe round. Whilst the fairways can get a bit heavy after a lot of rain the greens are excellent all year round so an off peak deal is well worth doing as it is probably a little on the pricey side otherwise. The Fairmont Torrance course also features a fantastic clubhouse overlooking St Andrews and the sea to reflect on your day. |

In my opinion the Torrance Course at St Andrews Bay is the better of the two courses at the resort. 18 quality holes with the 10th being one of the best par 5's I've played. Some great views out into the North Sea and of St Andrews town as well. The Torrance Course at St Andrews Baywas in superb condition as you would expect from a 5 star resort. It looked new in places but with time this will turn into a must play links course.

The St Andrews Bay Torrance course is a good course in a great location. Overlooking the Bay and with great views back to St Andrews it is very scenic. I would say it is not as tough or as good as the Devlin and the back nine in particular is a bit packed in. The greens are excellent though at any time of the year and there are several excellent holes such as 14 and 17. Worth playing but not too often.

Where do I start? Driving up to the Fairmont St Andrews Resort was very impressive. The facilities were excellent and it was a nice touch getting a basket of balls for the range before our round. We paid £120 per pair (using 2for1 vouchers) and to be honest it was not good value for money. If you like the whole golfing experience i.e. breakfast, lunch and dinner then you may enjoy the clubhouse. However, we are all keen golfers and I was bitterly disappointed in the condition of the Torrance course. It was bare, the rough was rugged and clay based not what you would expect on a links course. If you were unfortunate enough to go over the dune, you found yourself on a building site where playing out was hazardous to the long term health of your wrists. Too dear, too new and too American. If you come to Scotland to play golf at least play a 'traditional' Scottish course.
