Looking down over St Andrews, the Duke's Course is the only heathland course in the Home of Golf. Golfers will be stunned by the views out across the Fife countryside and out to sea. The course has gained the reputation as a must play course which more than justifies its reputation as one of the UK's best heathland courses. Distance, accuracy and shot making skills are all demanded at diferent times on the Duke's Course and the five different tees mean all golfers will be happily accommodated.

The Dukes Course just outside St Andrews is one of the best heathland/parkland layouts in Fife. The first 6 holes going away from the clubhouse on top of the hill are excellent through the trees, before you descend down on to the holes that have been revised by Tim Liddy in 2006. Unfortunately there is still the killer walk from the 9th green up the to the 10th hole, but at least now you only have to do it once. The 10th is another of the standout holes on the course and the winding trek round and down the hill offers great views over St Andrews. The majority of the changes introduced in 2006 involved re-routing the finish and this has definitely improved the course. The Duke's Course still has the up market corporate feel about it, but in a good way and the excellent practice facilities, good greens and wonderful clubhouse all come together for a great days golf.
Todays Golfer
Overshadowed by the mighty links on offer at the Home of Golf. A splendid inland alternative - the vast new bunkering is just as fearsome as the Old Course. Usually immaculate with improved drainage, a worthy year round venue. The sweeping right dogleg par 4 7th from an elevated tee with panoramic vistas of the Old Grey Toon is extra special.

Playing the Duke's Course does not feel like you are in St Andrews but more like some where in America with the weather not that good. Definitely built for the American tourist. Duke's Course is not that bad and has a few good holes on it with the 600 yard 11th a real test. The last few holes were a bit up and down a hill and all in all the Duke's Course was a good test of golf but not what I would be looking for up at St Andrews. Clubhouse does the job but nothing out of the ordinary.

You will soon forget you at the home of links golf when you play the Duke's Course. It is a solid inland layout that offers a different challenge to the more recognisable courses in St Andrews. One par three on the back nine will take every millimetre of your sweetspot to get to the testing green. The Duke's Course is a really great course, that is currently under repair in August 2005, so it may just be getting better!

The Duke's Course in St Andrews is a good resort course that is being improved in 2005 when we played it. The holes below the clubhouse are being changed and in my view it is a good idea although the walk from 9 to 10 and 17 to 18 will still be as hard work as they are now. The best holes on the Dukes are 1-7 through the trees so if you have a choice of nines, play this one. Like most resort courses there is too much walking (or buggying) between holes and it is a 4 hour+ course. Greens are excellent most of the year and overall it is worth playing escpecially when the new holes bed in. Views from the Duke's clubhouse are stunning over St Andrews to the sea and the food and facilities in the clubhouse are first class.
