Braid Hills No1 Golf Course is something a bit different. Not your normal city municipal golf course. The course makes you think which I enjoy. You have to work your way around Braid Hills No1 Golf Course. You can't just blast driver on every hole. Some great short par 4's that give you so many options from the tee. Greens were in great condition and were consistent. Even if you're having a bad day on the course the views of the city of Edinburgh are amazing. Braid Hills No1 Golf Course is well worth the price.

Braid Hills No1 Golf Course is a great public course. If you can deal with dog walkers, horse back riders and often poor golfers on the course at the same time as you, you will have a good round. Braid Hills No1 Golf Course is used regularly for the Evening News Dispatch Trophy and there are few better matchplay courses in the Lothians. Many drivable par 4s and testing tee shots, and a great finising 3 holes that will test the nerve of any match!

What a lovely surprise. Braid Hills No1 is a great little course near enough to the heart of Edinburgh. It has classic Scottish aspects, including hardcore gorse. It is a bit short, but you will still need your A-game if the wind blows. There is an excellent variety of holes from short, tight, downwind par 4s to long uphill ones into the wind, a couple of par 5s and par 3s that all play very differently. A number of the par 4s offer choices from the tee so you have to think your way around and the greens are in very good condition. There are some patches of bare ground where plenty of stones come through. This wouldn't be a problem if these were treated as GUR. Unfortunately they aren't and you risk damaging your clubs. This shouldn't detract from the breathtaking views all over the course. In particular, from the 18th green, the whole of Edinburgh is laid out before you. If you're up there, make sure you play the Braid Hills No1 course.

Braid Hills No1 golf course is a classic old design. Even though it is a municipal course the greens are usually pretty quick. Can be slow at the wrong time, especially the first 4 holes, but after that the course opens out. New trees at 11 and 12 have really toughened these holes up, although I am not sure they are in keeping with the style of the rest of Braids No1. From the 12th inwards to 17, every hole is a great test with the 16th off the back tee being one of the great driving holes. Braids No1 also has fantastic views across the city and is worth the green fee.

Braids provides a different challenge everytime you play it making it like a new course every time you venture out. Playing from the medals makes the course very different from the yellows and you're constantly challenged on club selection due to conditions.
Always in great condition and one of the best value for money rounds of golf around. The views are spectacular and always with a unique feeling. Its a historically rich course and if you know what to look for as your playing you'll see many heritage features that add to the uniqueness of the course.
