This was the course that made me first fall in love with golf. The 1st, a par 5, situated in front of the clubhouse demands a good drive under the watchful eyes of everyone having a drink in the 19th to those waiting to tee off. A road on the left and out of bounds from 150yds on the right, this hole can definitely set you up for a good or bad round.

The newly designed par 3 7th (The Rings) requires precision as two deep bunkers, separated by a large mound protect the front whilst deep grass trails from 11 o'clock to 4 o'clock of the green, a good choice for Nearest The Pin challenges..

Holes 10 through 13 are set in the ancient Ashley woods and can be challenging. The 10th again demands a straight drive as for the first 100yds anything else will require a tree wedge. Make sure you remember what the wind has being doing too as the trees form a wind break though shots will rise above this level and you may see your new Pro V1 disappear into the woody abyss.

A new white tee on the 13th dramatically improves the hole from what it used to be like, the whole hole has OOB flanking the left.

Then you leave the woods and go onto the 14th. It has ruined many a winning game as even a small slice will mean you will be taking three off the tee. The Camp tower in the far distance is the recommended aiming point. The next hole to talk about is the 17th, a long par 4 with lots a fairway for that final big drive of the round. For societies, this is a recommended Longest Drive hole.

Finally is the par 3 18th. A lot more challenging then it looks and anyone not making a par after entering the bunkers is kindly asked to place a pound in the captains charity jar at the 19th.
