Titleist 909 D3 Driver

The Titleist 909 D3 Driver is aimed at the low handicapper who wants to control ball flight, accuracy and workability whilst enjoying unparalled sound and feel. The 909 D3 driver has a 440CC sized, titanium clubhead in a classic pear shape incorporating a deep clubface. The clubface insert has been designed to maximise the energy transfer across the clubface and rear sole ridges combine with two distinctive trapezoid shapes across the centre of the club to reduce vibration and create a fantastic impact sound. The Titleist 909 D3 driver signals Titleist’s first use of a titanium Blind Bore hosel that secures the shaft of the club within the neck and offers both stability and flexibility across the whole range of 909 D3 shaft options. A swingweight screw in the rear of the 909 D3 sole allows for any weight differences when different shafts are custom fitted. The Titleist 909 D3 driver offers the lower handicapper a perfectly fitted driver that offers complete control from the tee.

What Golfalot Says

The Titleist 909 driver is a dramatic improvement on their recent drivers. Titleist drivers have always looked very classy and for all you Titleist purists out there you will be pleased to hear that fine tradition has been continued. However it is in the performance of the club where the big changes have occurred as all 3 of the 909 D models are much more alive than the previous models. The feel and sounds at impact is excellent and for a better players driver they are reasonably forgiving, although if you put a bad swing on one you will notice the difference. However as better players we all hit it out of the middle don’t we so we are all going to appreciate the consistency of the strike and the fact we can move the ball left, right and change the trajectory to suit. There are 3 models in the D2, D3 and DComp and we’re not going to pick the best one because that is Titleist’s job. Each head has different spin and launch characteristics and you need to combine these with the correct shaft top get the best model for you. The D2 has a slightly longer 460cc titanium head head for a mid launch with low spin. The D3 is also titanium with a smaller 440cc head for low launch and low spin, ideal for very low handicap players and the DComp is a composite titanium and carbon head for High launch and mid spin. All 3 models are excellent and in our view this is one of the best new drivers in the market this year, so get along to a Titeist supplier and try one out.

I kindly thank the culprit who stole my 907 D2 driver as it initiated both the purchase of the 909 D3 and also the downward spiral of my handicap. As a mid range golfer playing on a predominantly dog leg course I have the confidence to work the ball both ways with ease and the extra distance has enabled me to start the ball further left and right of the target providing easy layups to treacherous doglegs. The club has all the feel and sound of the popular 983 ,however the technology upgrades have definitely improved the vibration issues and the distance (I have my old 983 and have tested both clubs on the range with comparable swing speeds and both at 8.5 degrees) by 23 metres. For the player whose ability is probably 0-12 off the tee but 13-18 in general play this is definitely a must try.
