As the name implies the DT TruSoft 2018 golf ball is now the softest ball in Titleist's range.

They also say that is should be longer than the previous model and compared to the 2016 Titleist DT TruSoft, the 2018 version has a larger low compression TruTouch core that reduces the spin on longer shots.

The ionomer based cover has also been improved with a new TruFlex version that delivers that soft feel and that it certainly does with the putter, as you could definitely detect a softer sound.

With a metal faced putter it was even quieter than the previous version, which is saying something, so with an insert putter it will certainly please the Noise Abatement Society even more.

The aerodynamics of the dimples have also been tweaked to get a better flight, although it is quite subtle in terms of launch and peak height as you can see when I took both balls on GC2 to compare them with a driver.

What was more noticeable was not only that softer feel off the face, but also a few yards extra distance as the lower spin of just over 100rpm increased the carry.

With the 7-iron the differences were minimal, so if you like the iron control of the previous version then you won't be disappointed.

Around the greens on short and medium length chips, the two balls were pretty similar so it is really just down to feel.

Before you all rush out to get the DT TruSoft 2018, you should be aware that there is less control on chips than with a urethane covered ball like the Pro V1 as it spins less. If you like getting a little check on your chips for more control then a more premium ball will give you this, which is the same across all ball ranges and is the usual trade-off between performance and price.

Titleist DT TruSoft GC2

Despite sounding soft on and around the green the cover still felt firm enough to get some feedback, so it wasn't like you were hitting a cushion and I liked the balance that Titleist has struck here.

If you like a soft ball and can handle the lower greenside spin then the Titleist DT TruSoft 2018 is one of the best in this category at a competitive price.

Best ball and value that I have come across. It beats the Bridgetone E6 in just about every catagory. I have added about 10 yards on my driver and about 5 on my irons.

I think the DT TruSoft is very similar to the Pinnacle and there is less side spin with the Pinnacle. Only problem is who wants to admit to playing a Pinnacle.

Just so so. For the $$$, I had expected more.
