TaylorMade Rocketballz Tour Driver

The TaylorMade Rocketballz Tour Driver is a mid-sized driver with a deeper face than the standard Rocketballz model. Featuring all the same technology, the Rocketballz Tour appears slightly smaller at address and is more suited to better players.

The Rocketballz Tour combines a number of different technologies to create a faster, longer driver that does not sacrifice feel and playability. Flight Control Technology enables the golfer to adjust the face angle, lie and loft of the club to one of 8 settings via the FCT sleeve. Changing these settings allows for up to 60 yards of side-to-side trajectory adjustment.

The traditional, aerodynamic head benefits from TaylorMade's Ultra-Thin Wall casting process and Thick-thin crown design. The white crown colour appears 2% at address, and eliminates "hot spots" caused by sunlight. Meanwhile, the black PVD clubface contrasts the crown colour to make it easier to align the Rocketballz Tour Driver at address, especially in lower light.

TaylorMade's ICT, or Inverted Cone Technology, is milled directly into the back of the clubface and enlarges the portion of face that delivers high COR to produce faster ball speeds and improve forgiveness.

The 46-inch TaylorMade Rocketballz Tour Driver is paired with a 55g Matrix Ozik XCon 6 shaft and lightweight grip, reducing the overall club weight to further increase swing speeds and distance.

What Golfalot Says

The TaylorMade RBZ Rocketballz Tour Driver is similar in features to the standard RBZ driver so it has the adjustable hosel and the same white paint job. However that is where the similarity ends.

Firstly the shaft is an inch shorter and is a much stiffer and better quality Matrix shaft than the standard version, but this comes at a price. Secondly the head is a different shape that is taller and more triangular than the standard version. This does give it a lower, more penetrating flight, which is better. However we don't feel it looks as good and the sound is much more of a high pitched clunk, which is disappointing in what is supposed to be a better player premium driver.

With the previous Burner Superfast model we preferred the TP version over the standard version, but with theTaylorMade Rocketballz driver it is the other way round. The standard driver looks better, sounds better and is cheaper.

We would probably prefer the R11S over the RBZ Tour, which is also cheaper, so this is really going to come down to personal preference and how much adjustability you want in a driver.
