The TaylorMade R9 Fairway Wood is the first fairway wood to feature Flight Control Technology (FCT) that allows the golfer to change the face angle, loft and lie of the club in eight different changes. While the tweaking of clubs is commonplace on the Tour the R9 offers the ordinary golfer the same control over their clubs as a professional player using a simple bolt in the clubhead that can be changed in seconds. This gives golfers a wonderful level of control over the performance of their fairway woods with the R9 promoting shots which are high, carry further and move right to left, shots which are lower, controlled and move from left to right or shots which are neutral, straight and of mid level height. Like the R9 driver the TaylorMade R9 Fairway Wood boasts a “new classic” shape combining the classic lines of a traditional golf club with the modernity expected by today’s golfers. This combination gives the R9 a much lower CG location and a high MOI delivering a club that is forgiving and easy to launch.

TaylorMade R9 Strong 3 Wood Fairway Wood Review

For the first time Flight Control Technology also features in the TaylorMade R9 Fairway Woods and, as with the R9 driver, this allows golfer to quickly and simply choose from one of eight different changes to the face angle, loft and lie of the club. Providing the same level of the customisation expected on Tour the R9 fairway woods offers all golfers control over the performance of their fairway woods.

We were very impressed that the R9 fairway woods combined both the innovation of Flight Control Technology with the classic looks of a more traditional club. As with the R9 driver adjusting the club is very quick and you can really notice the changes to the shape of your shots as you run through the different settings.

Offering both control and forgiveness the R9 fairway wood is certainly another impressive TaylorMade product and we are delighted to see that manufacturers are now working hard to offer golfers adjustability and control in fairway woods as well as drivers. The TaylorMade R9 fairway woods are also available in an R9 TP version.

Like the R9 driver the TaylorMade R9 fairway wood is really hard to fault. I tried the 3 wood and it is a great looking club that sits well behind the ball, giving confidence without taking away the feeling that you can hit all types of shot. It has a great feel and sound at impact and is easy to manouvere both ways with a consistently penetrating flight and a real zing off the face. Even if you struggle moving the ball the Flight Control Techonology is easy to use and definitely has an impact on ball flight. Definitely worth trying if you are in the market for a 3 wood.
