TaylorMade R9 460 Driver

5 stars out of 5 (Based on 1 reviews)

Hot on the heels of the hugely impressive R9 driver comes the TaylorMade R9 460 driver which combines the Flight Control Technology (FCT) of the R9 driver with the sheer power and wonderful forgiveness of a 460cc clubhead and a longer, lightweight graphite shaft to promote greater speed on every shot. Using Flight Control Technology any golfer can easily use the TaylorMade wrench to adjust the face angle, loft and lie of the R9 460 simply by loosening a bolt and rotating the shaft into the preferred position. This allows all golfers to enjoy a driver perfectly suited to their swing that promotes straighter and longer drives. The R9 460 also helps promote draws and fades with different settings allowing for a side to side trajectory change of up to 40 yards, with the same settings also helping to reduce hooks and slices.

Compared to the R9 driver the TaylorMade R9 460 driver has a larger clubhead which combines with a deeper clubface and lower centre of gravity to deliver a much higher MOI that promotes forgiveness and a higher spin rate. Despite the larger clubhead and the technological breakthroughs the R9 460 can still boast of the classic looks and beautiful design that TaylorMade drivers are renowned for.

The Inverted Cone technology that has won TaylorMade so many fans is also included in the R9 460 driver and helps to expand those areas of the clubface that deliver high speeds allowing even mis hits to retain their shape and distance. Each R9 driver comes equipped with an Aldila REAX 60 gram tip-soft shaft and measures 45.75 inches. This allows the R9 460 to deliver much greater clubhead speed which, in turn, promotes distance off the tee. Flight Control Technology ensures that players using the TaylorMade R9 460 can shape the shots they want but the club also delivers the length that the modern player demands.

TaylorMade R9 460 Driver Review

For a lot of golfers the TaylorMade R9 460 driver will be just what they have been waiting for. Unless you are a low handicap golfer you probably found the head of the standard R9 driver a little on the small side at 420cc. This is because that is the maximum size of head for moveable weight drivers. With the R9 460, TaylorMade have removed this option and you just have the adjustable Flight Control Technology which allows you to adjust the angle of the face of the clubhead relative to the shaft. We prefer this kind of adjustability as it seems to have a greater effect on ball flight and in the TaylorMade R9 460 driver it works well. With 8 different positions for the shaft, there should be one to suit you and the adjustment with the single screw and wrench is easy to understand and change.

The club is a little longer front to back than the R9 and is verging on being triangular shape but stop just short and still looks pretty good. As the weight is further back the flight is a little higher on average than the R9 but still penetrating. The Aldila Reax shaft is pretty good and is a normal length shaft even though it is 1 inch longer than the standard R9 shaft. As the head is bigger the sound is a little louder than the R9 but don't mistake this for less feel as we think the TaylorMade R9 460 driver feels just as good and despite being a bit pricey is one of the bess adjustable drivers in the market today.
