The TaylorMade R9 Driver represent the most technologically advanced driver in the company’s history, building on and improving the innovations that made the r7 range such a massive hit with golfers. The R9 uses the brand new Flight Control Technology (FCT) which allows the golfer to change the face angle, lie angle and loft of the R9 by using a simple wrench. Using a simple bolt positioned in the clubhead the R9 can be used in eight different positions and golfers can change position in seconds. This adaptability allows the R9 to promote shots which are higher, carry further and move right to left, which are lower, controlled and move left to right or which are neutral, mid height and straight. This makes the R9 one of the most workable and adaptable clubs on the market. Tournament pro’s regularly have their TaylorMade drivers tweaked but the R9 is one of the first clubs to offer this lever of control to every golfer.
Movable Weight Technology also plays a big part in the R9 driver with three weight ports in the clubhead and each driver coming with one 16 gram and two 1 gram weights. By changing the weights to help promote draws, fades or straight shots golfer actually have access to 24 different driver types with just one R9. The TaylorMade R9 Driver has been designed to reflect the very best of classic golf club design mixed with the modernity for which TaylorMade are famed. The clubhead incorporated Ultra-Thin-Wall technology and the triangular shape promotes high MOI. Combined with the Inverted Cone Technology that has impressed across the TaylorMade range these development help make the R9 a club that leads the golfing world in technological advance but which is also incredible forgiving and easy to hit.

The TaylorMade R9 driver is the most advanced driver in the company's history building on the technology and innovation that made the R7 driver so popular with golfers.
The R9 driver is the first TaylorMade driver to use Flight Control Technology which allows golfers to change the face angle, lie and loft of the club using a simple wrench. With eight different positions available this makes the R9 one of the most adapatable and workable golf clubs available, giving all golfers the level of customisation demanded by Tour professionals.
The R9 also introduces Movable Weight Technology and the clubhead features three weight ports which can accommodate the 16 gram weight and two one gram weights that come with every driver. Golfers can quickly change the position of the weights to promote draws, fades or straight shots. Using both Flight Control Technology and Movable Weight Technology golfers have access to 24 different driver types with just one R9 driver.
We were hugely impressed with the R9 driver. We have enjoyed watching the growing popularity of adjustable drivers and we believe that the TaylorMade R9 is the best yet. We enjoyed tying the different settings to discover which suited us best and were impressed by how simply the changes could be made by loosening a screw on the sole of the club and swivelling the clubhead..
The different settings certainly have an impact of the shape of your shots and the flight of the ball. Many golfers will find the setting that suits them best and be happy to stay with that but it is certainly comforting to have so many options at your fingertips. Better players will enjoy the workability that the R9 offers while those less confident off the tee will certainly be impressed by the distance, consistency and forgiveness that this excellent club delivers.

The TaylorMade R9 is simply a great driver. It is a great looking club with a classy black finish that inspires confidence at address and that confidence is multiplied by the amazingly solid feel the R9 gives at impact. I loved the penetration of the ball flight and the distance was excellent. Even on off centre hits it felt and sounded good and the results were still impressive. The Flight Control Technology is great and you can really see the results in the ball flight. The Neutral Upright setting produced a great, slightly drawn ball flight that meant you just wanted to keep hitting it. I currently play with the R5 so when the R7 came out I was keen to try but didn't see any reason to change but having hit the R9 if someone offered a swap I would snatch their hand off!

Pretty impressive driver. Good head size...looks nice at address. Excellent shaft choice.
Good control of shot and can shape left and right. The sound is good as it does not emits extreme noise. If you are looking for a driver...........go for it.
10.5 is a good loft for many golfers.

I must admit I've always thought that adjustable driver were a bit of a harmless gimmickry by manufacturers out to take even more pennies from us. I must admit, however, that the system on the R9 driver really does work and you can see your shots changing shape as you go through the settings.
That said I think I'd probably stick to the setting I was most comfortable with but then I tend to just want my driver to go straight and long. And the TaylorMade R9 certainly does that with incredible consistency. One of the best driver I've tried recently. Pricey yes, but for this level of performance you might decide it is more than worth it.
