The TaylorMade r7 Quad 425cc driver features the revolutionary Movable Weight technology, 28 grams of movable weight divided between two widely spaced TaylorMade Launch Control (TLC) ports, allowing for a lateral shift in CG position of up to 5 millimetres. Robot testing indicates that the 425 delivers a lateral trajectory change of up to 13 yards when the TLC cartridges are configured to promote the maximum amount of either draw or fade. Likewise, players can configure the TLC cartridges to increase or decrease their spin-rate to promote changes in the height of their tee shots, either higher or lower. After a trajectory is chosen, the 425 makes it easier to achieve that trajectory over and over, thanks in part to the club's exceptionally high MOI and its large 425cc head. The TaylorMade r7 Quad 425cc driver promotes a wider change in trajectory in terms of both height and lateral movement; it's more forgiving; and visually encourages greater confidence. It was made possible by TaylorMade's Ultra-Thin Wall (UTW) technology, a casting process that allows the clubhead walls to be just 0.6mm thick, which is fully 40% thinner than the walls of most competitive drivers, and 25% thinner than the walls of the original r7 Quad. This saves weight and allows TaylorMade engineers to increase the amount of movable weight to 28 grams, while still making the head 25cc larger. It is built using Pull-Face Construction, wherein the clubface is made separately from the clubhead. That allows TaylorMade to cold-roll the clubface out of exceptionally strong titanium, resulting in an exceedingly fast, flexible and light clubface that bumps up against the USGA's limit for spring-like effect. The TaylorMade r7 Quad 425cc driver also features TaylorMade's groundbreaking Inverted Cone Technology (ICT). The Inverted Cone, which is milled directly onto the inner side of the clubface, increases the size of the club's COR Zone, which is the portion of the clubface that delivers high COR (more than .800). What that means is that ICT allows a larger area of the face to deliver consistently higher ball velocity, resulting in consistently longer drives. An added advantage of ICT is that the exceptionally light clubface allows the saved weight to be put to use as discretionary weight. The r7 Quad 425 comes equipped with the new TaylorMade RE•AX shaft that features a new technology developed by Fujikura.
For those who don't like the 460cc heads, the TaylorMade R7 425 driver is for you. As it name suggests, the 425cc head has a more compact look to it at address and this gives a good sound and feel at impact. The weights in the back of the head are movable, but are closer together and lower down than in the R5 Dual TP, TaylorMade's other driver with 2 moveable weights. Playing around with the weights does give the desired flight, but the head seemed a little heavier than other drivers in the market, which we think is a general TaylorMade thing. The design of the head and sole is excellent and the sole in particular gives it a very aggessive look. For us the standard shaft was a bit disappointing, so the TP version with it's better quality shaft is the one to go for if your budget can stretch that far. Otherwise this is a very competent driver and worth a test.

The TaylorMade R7 425 is probably the best TaylorMade driver I've tried. I liked the looks, the compact head and the results with the ball which is probably the most important. It gave me a good penetrating flight and despite the smaller head gives a whole lot of confidence through impact.

The TaylorMade r7 425 is the best driver I have ever owned. I am typically a bad slice, but this one straightens me right out. I am a long hitter, but the slice kills the length. With just a quick adjustment of the weights, you're slice is not rocking down the middle of the fairway. I strongly suggest you test all the weight settings at the driving range for a bit, just to get the feel down for each. You don't want to set the club too weighted if you don't need it. I found just a slight adjustment made all the difference in the world. This club is long too. I have had the pleasure of hitting the Nike SasQuatch Sumo2 (square head), Cleveland HiBore, and the Callaway FT-5 this past season, and this smaller TaylorMade r7 425 just makes the ball cut through the air much cleaner, faster, and farther. I have the stock stiff shaft and it's at 9.5 degrees loft. This club truly makes teeing off fun again. Best club in my bag, bar none.
