TaylorMade R11S Driver

The TaylorMade R11S Driver is TaylorMade's most technologically advanced driver to date, showcasing the latest innovation, adjustability and performance.

The white 460cc head features a 3° Flight Control Technology sleeve, a new 5-way Adjustable Sole Plate and Taylormade's Movable Weight Technology, allowing the R11S Driver to be tuned for 80 different launch settings.

Like the original R11 Driver, the R11S combines a flat-white crown colour with a black PVD face to improve accuracy and alignment off the tee. The white crown makes the R11S appear 2% larger, which increases confidence at address. The modern-classical clubhead shape is designed for better players, whilst still offering forgiveness and confidence to average players. The R11S is a slightly more triangular shaped head than traditional drivers providing a higher MOI and a centre of gravity that is farther-back and deeper in the club.

The new 5-Way Adjustable Sole Plate offers two more settings than the original R11 offered, with the R11S now allowing open, slightly open, neutral, slightly closed and closed face angles. The Sole Plate works with TaylorMade's Flight Control Technology to created 40 combinations of loft and face angle. When used alone, the FCT adjusts the loft and face angle via the shaft sleeve system. The Adjustable Sole Plate allows you to adjust face angle independant of loft. This combination means the TaylorMade R11S offers approximately 60 yards of side-to-side trajectory adjustment.

The R11S includes two Movable Weight Technology cartridges weighing 10g and 1g. They can be interchanged to create a draw bias or neutral ball flight. Changing the weights alters the centre of gravity by 4mm from heel to toe promoting up to 20 yards of side-to-side bias.

The TaylorMade R11S Driver is further enchanced by TaylorMade's Inverted Cone Technology that expands the COR zone, or the portion of the club that delivers faster ball speeds. The R11S measures 45.75" and comes equipped with an Aldila RIP Phenom 60g shaft.

What Golfalot Says

The TaylorMade R11S driver is a refined version of the previous R11 driver. The key changes are the adjustable hosel that now has an extra 0.5 degrees of loft either way and the adjsutable sole plate that now has 5 lie options instead of 3.

The extra degree on the loft range is a good development and enables a more noticeable change in flight performance. The extra options on the sole plate are also welcome and something we suggested was required when the R11 was launched, so we are glad they have taken our suggestion on board!

The sole plate also seems more 'exposed' on the sole of the driver so it seems to have more influence on the lie angle of the R11S. However you have to put the club down first and then grip it in its new lie angle before you get the benefit of this feature and we are also not convinced by the theory behind the sole plate affecting ball flight as it is just changing the angle at which you grip the club.

At address the R11S driver looks excellent with a nice rounded head and the white colour scheme that TaylorMade have almost trademarked does help you line up easily. The sound and feel are very good and together with the adjustable options in the hosel and the head weights you should be able to get a set up that gets the trajectory and distance you require.

Finally TaylorMade have put a decent shaft in a standard driver and the Phenom version of the excellent Aldila RIP shaft performs very well and just stays on the right side of being too long at 45.75 inches.

Compared to the RocketBallz Tour, the R11S Driver is cheaper, looks better, sounds better and has a better shaft so better players should go for this. And ignore the sole plate.
