TaylorMade R11 Fairway Wood

The TaylorMade R11 Fairway is built with more adjustability to offer more distance. Flight Control Technology (FCT) is mixed with an Adjustable Sole Plate (ASP), that combine to offer players up to 60 yards of side-to-side trajectory change and around 1000 RPM backspin change.

The new aerodynamic shape of the TaylorMade R11 Fairway promotes faster speed, whilst the deeper face creates a deeper centre of gravity for a more penetrating flight. The contact area on the sole of the R11 Fairway is 35% less than the R9 Fairway which creates less turf resistance at impact. The non-glare, white crown and black clubface have been designed to improved visual alignment.

A TP (Tour Preferred) version of the R11 Fairway has also been created, that is identical to the standard version but offers more shaft options.

What Golfalot Says

The TaylorMade R11 Fairway wood features a white head and the adjustable sole plate to go with the previous adjustable options of the R9. Compared to the R9, the white head is larger and we feel benefits of adjustment in fairways are greater than in drivers as you can get the right shape and trajectory for your game to improve accuracy. We would recommend goign to a fitting centre to find out the best settings for you as trial and error coudl take some time.

The R11 also features a redesigned sole that reduces the contact area with the turf by 35% from the R9 fairway. This equates to less resistance at impact, resulting in greater energy transfer to promote increased distance.

We really liked the R11 fairway as it sat very well at address and the white head really set it apart from the pack. As with the R11 driver, the adjustable sole plate is there to re-align an adjusted face to give you the look at address you prefer to in turn give you more confidence and a better shot. We are not 100% convinced about this but nonetheless it is a useful option and leaving it in the neutral setting still gives you an excellent fairway wood.

The Fujikura or Project X shaft available preformed very well, the sound was great and the feel at impact was very solid . The standard steel headed version is available in 5 lofts from 14 to 22 degrees and there is also a TP version which is the same, but with a greater choice of shafts. For all you titanium lovers out there, the R11 Ti fairway features a larger, lighter titanium head and 3 choices of lofts from 15, 18 and 21 degrees.

The buzz for the R11 Driver and fairways meant I have been excited to give them a try and I was not disappointed. I love the white head black face contrast and the fairways sit nicely behind the ball and the head is classicly shaped. Performance was a winner too with lot's of long and penetrating shots, exactly what I want from a fairway wood. The R11's are definitely heading onto the wish list!

The R11 Fairway was my favourite club when testing out all the latest 'white' range of TaylorMade woods. The low-profile white head looked better hitting a ball from the ground, in my opinion, than the drivers. I like to hit my fairway woods high, and with a simple adjustment of the sole plate, I was able to get the head sitting slightly open resulting in a higher, straighter ball flight. The different aspects of the technology and white head can be intimidating to some people, but once the club is set up correctly, its performance is unquestionable. I found it easy to hit low or high, and also shape side to side. For a good golfer, this could just be the perfect fairway wood.

I have been playing the R11 3-wood and 5-wood the last 12 months. I have been impressed with Taylormade's consistency in their design & performance of their fairwood series. I have played their R200, R7, R9 and now R11 Ti fairway woods and really appreciated their incremental improvements along the way (not too drastic).

Now, I am NOT a fan of the R11 driver... it's overhyped and I think the White top is obnoxious...and frankly, I don't think it plays better than the R9 or even the R7 series.

With that said, the fairway woods are right on the money. The feel, the sound, setup & perfomance stays in line with their tradition of excellence. I would highly recommend them!
