TaylorMade Burner SuperFast 2.0 Driver

The TaylorMade Burner SuperFast 2.0 promotes more distance and faster swing speed and is the lightest driver TaylorMade has produced.

The Burner SuperFast 2.0 features a large 4,550 square millimetres face and low-drag aerodynamics that are designed to increase swing speed, a higher launch angle and lower spin-rate. Two distance-producing technologies combine to make this high-MOI driver five yards longer than the original Burner SuperFast.

The TaylorMade Burner SuperFast 2.0's distinct white crown is paired with a black PVD-finish clubface, providing a contrast for easier and more consistent alignment. The white crown colour also works to eliminate high-intensity "hot spots" caused by sunlight, that can affect gloss-finish metalwoods.

The Burner SuperFast 2.0 driver has a new shape, that combined with TaylorMade's Dual Crown Technology is designed to create a lower Centre of Gravity and offer a higher launch angle and lower spin-rate. The TaylorMade Burner 2.0 also incorporates a longer shaft, lighter overall weight and more usable face area.

An Ultra-Thin Wall (UTW) construction combined with a more triangular address shape and profile shape improve performance as well as playability. The large face is vital, as the longer club-length makes it more of challenge for players to make square contact consistently. The face provides more area to strike the ball. The Taylormade Burner SuperFast 2.0 enhances playability and offers a moderate draw bias with a "measured square" face angle.

The high-MOI titanium clubhead features TaylorMade's Inverted Cone Technology. Milled into the back of a clubface, the Inverted Cone expands the area of the face that delivers high ball speed, meaning more distance and ball speeds on off-centre strikes.

The Burner SuperFast 2.0 features a new Winn Lite grip that weighs just 25 grams, that sacrifices nothing in terms of feel and traction. Overall, the SuperFast 2.0 weighs just 279 grams, making it the lightest driver TaylorMade has ever produced. It is paired with a Matrix Ozik XCon 4.8 shaft, which is both ultra-light and tip-soft, helping the golfer generate more ball speed, a higher launch angle and more distance.

TaylorMade Burner SuperFast 2.0 Driver Review

The TaylorMade Burner Superfast 2.0 driver not only features a change in head colour to white, but also several new technical features to create what TaylorMade say is their lightest and longest range of woods to date. The Burner Superfast 2.0 driver features a new head design that is faster through the air due to improved aerodynamics.

Compared to the original Burner Superfast driver, the crown is more rounded and a little taller at the front, resulting in smoother air flow. The back of the head is lower and slightly further back to move the centre of gravity back and down to promote a higher launch. The new shape also means that the crown can be made in a single piece and the wall reduced to just 0.6mm thick in places, which is 40% less than similar drivers in the market.

To create more speed the Superfast 2.0 comes with a 45 gram Matrix X-con 4.8 shaft that is not only lighter, but longer at 46.5 inches. The total weight of the club is just 279 grams and this combination of head and shaft creates more clubhead speed and therefore more distance, albeit possibly at the expense of some accuracy.

The big visual change of course is the white colour of Burner Superfast head and the matt white finish also looks bigger and reduces glare or ‘hot spots’ where you get the reflection of the sun if you are lucky enough to play in it regularly. At address the Burner Superfast 2.0 driver looked quite triangular, which might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but we liked it. The white head and black face was certainly very easy to line up at address. The face is a little more closed than the R11 driver to give the ball flight a little draw bias, or to make it go straight for all you faders out there.

The club did feel very light and it took a while to get used to the longer shaft, but once we did the distance was very impressive. The feel and forgiveness at impact was very good even if the sound was a little dull due to the shape and size of the head. The Burner Superfast 2.0 driver is available in 9 and a half, 10 and a half or 13 degree models and is great fun and well worth checking out. However on the models we tested the paint on the back of the sole of the club started to wear off so look after them.

Better players can join in too as the Burner Superfast 2.0 driver is also available in a TP version which has a 1 inch shorter shaft, a 1 degree open face and a fixed toe weight to stop the clubhead turning over at impact to create a neutral or fade bias for better players. We really liked the TP version as the head shape was a little more rounded and it sat a little more square at address. The shorter shaft was more manageable and we think better players should consider this even over the R11 driver.

I loved the white look of the Burner SuperFast 2.0 but I think the TaylorMade designers have overdone the shaping at the back of the head. What that gains in performance is certainly to the detriment of looks at address. Having said that the performance was very good, a solid sound from the clubhead and good distance.

The Superfast 2.0 is exactly what it says on the tin, super fast. The club is built for speed and does not disappoint. It is light in your hands and noticably longer than a standard driver. The white crown will not be for everyone, but is certainly worth consideration. I found the graphics on the crown a bit off putting, but certainly did not take away from the performance. The ball went far with little effort. I enjoyed being able to swing a little more controlled and not give up any noticable distance, perhaps still gaining a few yards. When you begin to swing harder, you begin to battling to keep the ball flight under control. Overall, the club is perfectly suited to a mid handicap golfer that has a consistant swing.

Recently traded my TaylorMade R9 SuperTri for a Burner 2.0 TP version. Was looking for a lower ball flight and the heavier shaft certainly does the job. This club bombs it....and it I can swing at 80% and get the same results v 100% effort of my old driver, giving a feeling of a lot more control.

A 1 degree open face and toe weight gives the club a fade bias - so I feel I can really roll my arms over without worrying about a snap hook to the left. It's still easy to fly it high if you need to (wind at your back), just tee the ball high, but the big advantage with this club is it's penetrating trajectory - great when driving into the wind....nearly every second or third hole when playing in Ireland!!!

Club is still widely available but has been replaced this year by the RBZ. I picked up mine as Demo club - only ever hit in-store. Some great value to be had on last years models!!

My first expensive driver and its very forgiving. However, I've gone for a much stiffer shaft than my older one and I was having trouble controlling accuracy off the tee. However, I've got used to the shaft now and can often hit 250-300yrds in ideal circumstances. Great driver, looks sleek and sounds delightful.
