TaylorMade Burner Steel Fairway Wood

2.5 stars out of 5 (Based on 2 reviews)

The TaylorMade Burner Steel fairway wood is developed for players who like to swing fast and hit the ball hard, high and long. The TaylorMade Burner Steel incorporates a large, classically shaped steel club head that boasts the highest MOI of any fairway wood in golf. Compared to TaylorMade's r7 Steel fairway woods, the Burner Steel's MOI is a full 30% higher. Burner Steel's unusually high MOI combines with its shallow clubface design and low, far-back CG to make it tremendously forgiving and easy to hit. TaylorMade Burner Steel fairway woods are also exceptionally long, thanks to TaylorMade's SuperFast Technology, which incorporates a light TaylorMade RE*AX graphite shaft and light grip to promote faster swing speed and faster ball speed for increased distance. Additionally, the crown features the same SuperFast Technology markings as the Burner driver.

A bit average from TaylorMade. The Burner Steel sits very low to the ground and it is easy to get the ball up in the air, but it is just that the flight is so high that it goes no where. More up than out. It looks okay with the tram lines down the head, which I thought would be off-putting, but weren't. It just doesn't get the ball flying out there with any force.

Only bought this because my bag divider wore through the Grafalloy blue shaft on my old TM 200Steel 3 wood. It was just as cheap to buy a new club as it was to replace the shaft!
I tried the Callaway X 3 wood and the Burner Steel, both with stiff stock shafts on the launch monitor and the results were pretty compelling. Got a much tighter shot dispersion AND an extra 15 yards out of the TM consistently. So it's in my bag.
Out on the course? Well it's certainly forgiving although it's not the club I would choose if I had to work it around a dog leg. It IS long and reliable and I use it most off the tee when Driver's not a good option.
The only real drawback....I agree with the other reviewer....is that the ball flight is very high. More like you'd expect from a 4 or 5 wood even. Into the wind that costs distance. Otherwise it's proving pretty reliable.
