What started as a rumour has become reality. The limited edition TaylorMade R1 Black driver is identical the original white TaylorMade R1, but with a new black finish.

"We have been paying attention to the golfers out there, and they've been screaming for a black version, so we're going to go ahead and make it," said Tom Kroll, TaylorMade's Metal Woods Global Product Marketing Manager.

Photos of the Black R1 hit the internet earlier this year, and debate about its existence spread through clubhouses everywhere. The official TaylorMade Black R1 drivers will be available in limited quantities from select retailers from June 10th in the US and July 1st in the UK.

Whilst there is no performance difference from the original R1, the Black R1 will maintain all the latest TaylorMade technologies. Golfers can choose from 168 different adjustability set-ups to tune the driver to their wants and needs.

The Loft-Sleeve can be adjusted to offer 12 lofts between 8° and 12°. The dial on the sole can be tuned to offer seven face-angle positions and players can adjust the flight bias (i.e. draw or fade) by moving the the 2 and 10 gram weights in the clubhead.

The TaylorMade Black R1 driver is paired with an Aldila RIP Phenom 55-gram shaft designed to promote faster clubhead speed and better feel that typical ultra-lighweight shafts.
