SkyCaddie SG 2.5 Golf GPS Rangefinder Review

The SkyCaddie SG 2.5 GPS rangefinder is an entry level model but it does everything you need it to. It is small and lightweight so it is easy to slip in your pocket or clip to the strap of your bag. The display may be simple but it is the information that is key and on the tee the hazard distances are marked well. Within range of the green, the outline of the green gives font/middle/back yardages and the round cursor makes it very easy to move the middle yardage to where the pin is and to generall navigate around the device. The shape of the green is clearly shown too so if you are coming in from an angle you can get your carry yardages right and the Intelligreen Pro, if available, takes this information to the next level with green slopes too.

The additional features for scoring and shot distance measurement are very good and the battery is good for 3-5 rounds between charges. On the downside the SkyCaddie SG 2.5 can only hold 20 courses, which may be enough for most, but if you travel a lot it may mean a lot of transferring files from your PC, which holds all the courses, to your device. The other thing to be aware of is the annual subscription cost which is required for the device to work. You do get updates, but depending on how long you think you will have the device, should be factored in to the cost of ownership.

Overall this is a very competent device that does all the basics very well and with no fuss so if you can live with the subscription, it is well worth checking out.
